History of the Cincinnati Dockers

Take a walk through the history of the Cincinnati Dockers, the first Australian rules football club in North American history!

1996

The Founding of the Dockers

Wanting Cincinnati to feel a little more like home, Aussie Geoff Cann gathered a few expatriates plus a few Americans and started the first Australian Rules Football Club in 1996.  After partnering with the Fremantle Dockers, the Cincinnati Dockers were born.  

1997

Dockers are Inaugural D1 National Champions

The first championships were held in Cincinnati in 1997, and they were won by the host Cincinnati Dockers. Under the tutelage of Dan Ryan, the Cincinnati Dockers won the inaugural USAFL Division 1 National Championship in 1997.

2004

Dockers win the D3 National Championship

In 2004, the Cincinnati Dockers won the D3 championship, the second National Championship in the club's history.

2024

Dockers help start club team at the University of Cincinnati

In the spring of 2024, Dockers players and UC students Kyle Bavis and PJ Schaaf, worked with the Cincinnati Dockers to start a college club Aussie rules football team at the University of Cincinnati. The team is the oldest current collegiate Aussie rules team in North America.

Present Day

The Dockers commitment to the game!

To this day, the Cincinnati Dockers strive to grow the game of Australian rules football in Cincinnati, Ohio. We welcome people from all different walks of life to try the game, learn the game, and eventually to love the game.
